School Trips

School trips were an important part of the learning at AHSS. In an time when travel outside of the area was often limited, students were exposed to different ideas and cultures and brought back new ideas and developed new friendships.

Mediterranean Cruise 1972

On  Monday February 21, 1972, fifty-eight AHSS students and teachers set sail from Venice on the Uganda, a British cruise ship. The ports of call were Katakolon, Istanbul, Santorin, Malga and Naples, with students returning to the UK and then home via air.

For many, it was their first time visiting Europe and the Mid East.

What a wonderful opportunity for them!

The SS Uganda was a British steamship that was built in 1952. Refitted as an educational cruise ship in the 1960s, the former cargo holds were converted into dormitory cabins with a total of 920 berths, and a passenger capacity of 1,226. The ship was laid up in 1985 and scrapped in 1992. (from Wikipedia)
